Research by MIT Sloan School of Management Professor Ed Roberts released in a 2009 report by the Kauffman Foundation entitled "Entrepreneurial Impact:  The Role of MIT" shows that the 25,800 currently active companies founded by MIT alumni employ about 3.3 million people and generate annual world wide sales of US$2 trillion, producing the equivalent of the eleventh-largest economy in the world.
